Campeche and Guanajuato reopen archaeological zones

Closed since March, some archaeological zones of these two states reopen with the necessary sanitary measures and controlled entrances.

As of today, the states of Campeche and Guanajuato open 10 archaeological zones with strict sanitation measures.

The archaeological zones that reopen in Campeche are Hormiguero, Xpujil, Dzibilnocac, Balamkú, and Hochob.

While Guanajuato reopened the areas of Plazuelas, Peralta, Cañada de la Virgen, El Cóporo and Arroyo Seco.

According to Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, the objective is to reactivate the tasks of heritage dissemination and the country’s tourist economy.

Archaeological areas with high security measures

Adriana Velázquez Morlet, director of the INAH Campeche Center, explained that the five archaeological zones are equipped with signage.

The zones will open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in each one.

And entry in groups of 10 to a maximum of 20 people will be allowed.

According to Adriana Velázquez, the information generated and the behavior observed in this set of reopened areas will be used to evaluate the reopening of other larger areas with a tourist influx.

It should be noted that Campeche has been on a yellow traffic light for just over a week.

Regarding the archaeological zones of Guanajuato, David Jiménez Guillén, head of the INAH Center of the state, reported that they have worked together to enable visiting circuits.

And as in Campeche, sanitization modules have been placed, in addition to inviting the public to use the mask on a mandatory basis.

In addition to that attendees bring their own antibacterial gel, mask and other hygiene implements, among other measures.
