Mazatlán’s tourism recovery continues to take slow but firm steps: this weekend it reached an average of 38 percent hotel occupancy, according to figures from the Tres Islas Hotel Association.
The expectations for the next weekend are to continue with growth, reaching an average of 40 percent in occupancy.
José Ramón Manguart Sánchez, president of the organization, acknowledged that it is possible to speak of a recovery in the tourism sector, tourist loyalty to Mazatlán and higher occupancy rates each weekend.
However, the hotel businessman clarified, it will not be possible to speak of a complete recovery until the pandemic by Covid-19 is under control. The virus kept tourist activity “frozen” for 3 months in the port of Mazatlan.
38 percent hotel occupancy is the highest percentage since the reopening on July 1.
“Yes, more tourists can be seen all over the city, there is work, the truth is that we cannot complain, there is more business and it will get better as time goes by,” said José Enrique Cabanillas López, who operates a charioteer in the Golden Zone.
Some bus lines reported an increase of 30 percent compared to the last month, especially on trips from Culiacán, Durango, Nayarit, and Jalisco.
“It is what was expected when the reopening of hotels and beaches was approved, there are more people on weekends than on weekdays though,” explained an administrative employee at the Central de Autobuses de Mazatlán.
