INGREDIENTS

  • 4 kg. white flour,
  • 1,250 kg. of sugar,
  • 6 tbsp. yeast,
  • 1.5 kg. of vegetable shortening,
  • 1 pinch of salt,
  • Ground piloncillo

PREPARATION

Women’s bread is the gastronomic legacy of the state of Sinaloa, and due to its good taste, its popularity has transcended all corners of the state and its surroundings. Women’s bread originates from Guasave but was later produced in other parts of Sinaloa, as well as in Sonora and Baja California.

These are the steps to prepare this traditional Sinaloan dessert:

  1. Mix the flour with the yeast.
  2. Add the sugar, salt, and shortening.
  3. Add water little by little and knead until a homogeneous mass is achieved and it comes off the hands
  4. In a container, spread a little oil and let the dough rest until it doubles in volume. (cover with film paper or plastic bag)
  5. Make balls and put them on a greased tray.
  6. Again let it double in size. (Approximately 1 hour)
  7. Lightly crush each ball and add one tbsp. of piloncillo.
  8. fold to cover the piloncillo.
  9. Preheat oven to 180 ° C for 25 minutes.
  10. Bake at 200 ° C until it turns golden.
