Mazatlán, Sinaloa (July 21, 2020).- Accustomed to the bad smell that comes from the waste he collects every day through the streets and avenues of the city, Jonathan, a Mazatleco garbage collector for 10 years, confronts the coronavirus without fear.

The speed with which he has to do his job, he says, does not give him a “chance” to wear a face mask.

Only in his left hand, he is wearing a black nylon glove, although he also says that it does not “let” him work comfortably.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays he walks the route of the Venustiano Carranza neighborhood; Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday a part of the Juárez neighborhood; this is the route where more garbage is collected, an approximate of 10 tons a day.

During the quarantine period, you have noticed a slight increase in the amount of garbage you collect. However, he pointed out that for these holiday period dates, each year the increase is constant.

“Monday and Tuesday, as they are weekdays, more garbage is collected on any of the routes around the city”, Johnathan says.

Between 600 and 800 tons of garbage a day are generated in the city of Mazatlán.
