Guillermo Romero estimated that during the first weekend in Mazatlán, a figure of 36 percent occupation can be reached.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa (July 6, 2020).- The president of the Hotel Commission, Guillermo Romero, reported that some hotels had to postpone their reopening because they are undergoing renovation works.

Although most of the hotels already opened their doors on July 1, when the tourist area of the port was re-inaugurated, some hotels, mainly those located in the Golden Zone, are waiting for the rehabilitation of Camarón Sábalo avenue remodeling works to be finished.

Other establishments are in the process of obtaining all sanitary protocols, as they will have to adapt to the new normality; Romero commented that all sanitary measures must be taken care of.

Romero explained that having an occupancy of 40 percent, it cannot be taken out for expenses generated within the operation of a hotel.

They hope that in the coming weeks the recovery and openings will increase.

He estimated that in the first weekend the destination reached 36 percent of occupation, in general terms.

The hotel leader noted that despite the situation, they are optimistic that Mazatlán can recover faster than other tourist places, as it benefits from tourists arriving by land, and not only by air.

Guillermo Romero explained that they will bet on the national market: Durango, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Guadalajara, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Sonora and of course Sinaloa, since foreign tourism will return little by little.

The Mazatlán-Durango highway will be one of the factors that could benefit from regional tourism. They have good expectations with this sector, despite not comparing with the previous year, with the reopening the outlook will improve.

Romero stressed that another positive thing about the reopening of hotels is that the sources of employment will be reactivated after 3 months of inactivity.
