59 cruise arrivals canceled so far this year in Mazatlan

There is still no news of when the cruise ships will return to Mazatlán, and there are even shipping lines that have suspended their operations until September 30.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa (June 26, 2020).- The tourism sector has suffered serious damages worldwide due to the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the sectors that have registered great economic losses is the cruise industry.

From March to June 30, a total of 47 cruise ship arrivals have been canceled, plus 12 more that were scheduled for July, so that around 150 thousand cruise passengers were stopped from arriving at Mazatlan, with a loss of more than 10 million dollars.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlán, David González Torrentera, stated that they have been in constant communication with the shipping lines, but so far there is no news about their return.

González Torrentera explained that for the low season of cruise arrivals in the Mexican Pacific, Mazatlán had scheduled the arrival of 12 ships (for the month of July), nine ships for August and five for September.

He recalled that for this year, this segment brought significant growth, as 163 vessel arrivals were scheduled against 132 that arrived during 2019.

The Carnival Cruise Line shipping line reported through its official pages the postponement of their arrivals in Mexico, until September 30, on the recommendation of the health authorities.
