Baja California Sur woke up this Sunday 21 with more than 1,160 accumulated cases of COVID 19, of which 569 were still active. This same day, the Captainship of Puerto de Cabo San Lucas once again restricted nautical tourism activities with the exception of sport fishing.
The news, spread at night among the maritime community, dealt a severe blow to the economy of service providers, since thousands of pesos were invested to guarantee the health of the equipment, and now they will not be able to be used again.
These activities had been authorized on June 18, 2020, by the Baja California Sur Health Safety Committee, the same inter-institutional entity that restricted them two days later. Presumably, the change in plans of the health authorities is related to the exponential increase in active cases of COVID 19 in the entity in the last 72 hours.
According to the official statement issued by the Captaincy of the Port of Cabo San Lucas, the decision was made official by the Baja California Sur Health Safety Committee, where it is specified that only sport fishing activities are authorized. Nautical tourism activities such as kayaks, boat rides to the bay, banana, parachute, jet skis, and everything related to nautical service to third parties are restricted – again.
The annoyance was collective in the maritime community of Cabo San Lucas, since having been authorized less than 96 hours ago and the subsequent cancellation, did not help the economy of the port, on the contrary, a significant investment was made in sanitizing material, boat cleaning, training and application of protocols.
It should be remembered that representatives of the Port Complex announced the application of more than ninety manuals, training, and other actions to avoid COVID 19 infections.
The disappointment in the decisions of the government authority, generated a collective disagreement in the port of Los Cabos because if it is the authority itself that does not know how to agree, they should be responsible for those infected by COVID 19 in Baja California Sur.
