Some cemeteries just went ahead and closed down even before the date announced by the municipal president
Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- “I came to visit my father, pray to him and put some flowers on his grave,” said José Ríos, his voice broken by the sadness of seeing the doors of the cemetery closed before the date set by the Father’s Day public security operation.
The municipal president, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, announced that the closure would be Saturday 20, Sunday 21 and Monday June 22, to avoid crowds.
The man with the flowers accepts that it is okay for the authority to seek to avoid the crowds to stop the Covid-19 infections, “but my father will not have his flowers.”
He will have to return to the pantheon on Tuesday, however the cemeteries will accept a certain number of people inside the premises.
Like this man, dozens went to private and municipal cemeteries, and they could not visit their relatives either.
