The economic reactivation of Mazatlán, which began on Tuesday, June 16, allowed at least 5,658 Mazatlecos to return to their source of employment as normal, reported David González Torrentera, Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlán.

“It does not mean that those 5,658 have lost their jobs; the vast majority of business owners did not terminate or dismiss their employees, but this means that there are already 5,658 people who can return to work after staying home for more than two months ”, he explained.

The head of the Sedectur pointed out that in Mazatlán there are 23,679 businesses, of which only 48 percent were operating during the lockdown (March 23 to May 30), however, he explains that in this reactivation 3,680 businesses are incorporated into commercial activity.

González Torrentera specified that after the confinement, at least 8,332 formal jobs were lost (those registered with the IMSS).

He explained that at the beginning of the month of March in the municipality there were 117,329 formal jobs, and that at the end of the month of May the number dropped to 109,006 jobs; which represents a drop of 15.1 percent.

The municipal official indicated that the services, construction, tourism, and restaurant sectors were the most affected, and that it was in April in which most losses were recorded.
