Unlike Cancun, the Riviera Maya has been slower and more cautious in terms of reopening, despite the fact that the orange traffic light implemented locally by the government of Carlos Joaquín Gonzalez, will allow them to be open with at least 30% occupancy, for now only 5 establishments have reported the reopening of activities.
In preliminary information obtained by NITU.mx, the Riviera Maya Hotel Association has reported that this Monday, June 8, activities began at the Barceló Maya Palace, Playa Maya, Aspira Suites, Tukan Hotel, and El Dorado Sea Side Suites.
For the following days some others could open, but the progressive opening will undoubtedly go as far as December. Next Monday for now the Hotel Xcaret México will be opening its doors, as will the Xcaret Park.
Other chains that have different properties are going to stagger their openings, Barceló for example, after opening and their first property would go according to their project until August 1 to open the second, Barceló Maya Riviera, on September 1 Maya Colonial, October 1 Maya Caribe, November 1 Maya Tropical and December 1 Barceló Maya Beach.
Many will open this June, in addition to Xcaret Mexico, Fairmont Mayakoba, Las Villas Akumal, and Hidden Beach on Monday and Iberostar Paraíso Maya on 25th.
The truth is that for some chains, the limitation of operating at 30% or 40% is impractical because their idea is to focus their guests on one of their properties so as not to open all of them, so the dates could change if the restrictions of capacity are maintained, and demand increases.
The Riviera Maya Hotel Association may update the list of openings once decisions are made in the different properties.
