Mazatlán, Sinaloa (June 1, 2020).- “The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic will last beyond the end of the lockdown period. And serious emotional conflicts in people such as anxiety, depression, fear, and anguish are expected to come up since it is foreseen that between 20 and 25% of companies will not be able to reopen in the new normal,”, warned the president of the Mazatlán College of Psychologists, Georgina Lizárraga.

“The serious thing about the case is that the forecasts indicate that between 20 and 25% of the companies are thinking about not reopening, and many of those who plan to reactivate do not yet have a date to do so, which provokes uncertainty among hundreds (or maybe even thousands) of employees”, Dra Lizarraga said.

She stated that to face this emotional conflict, in the first place, the person needs to be in contact with him of herself, with no despair, having patience and starting to recognize the seriousness of the situation, and acting accordingly.

She said that commonly, unemployment generates serious emotional conflicts such as anxiety, depression, fear, and anguish, so many of them will have to seek emotional support from both mental health professionals and their families.

Doctor Georgina Lizárraga insisted that the coronavirus pandemic will bring a before and an after, to the extent that once the confinement is lifted, there will have to be a restructuring at all levels.

The expert pointed out that the effects could last up to a year and a half, and that the ways of relating with each other will change dramatically.

“People are going to have to change their way of dressing, eating, and expressing their feelings”, Dra Lizarraga concluded.
