“Mazatlecos” go out for a walk on the Malecon without concern

On Sunday, May 17th, the absence of public security agents in tourist areas of Mazatlán, caused the population to “relax” the prevention measures and visit the Malecon. Several people (some of them without a mouth cover), could be seen walking nonchalantly from the Monument to the Fisherman to the Paseo del Centenario.

The local news media Reacción Informativa, posted photos of groups of people “touring” the Malecon.

In Playa Norte, for example, the presence of fishermen and people walking in the area was observed.

Couples were also observed taking photographs in the Casa del Marino area.

Street vendors were also rolling up and down the Malecon.

As can be seen in the photographs, most of these vendors did not wear a mouth cover.

Police officers and Public Security staff were nowhere to be found though.

A lonely lifeguard could be observed walking along the Malecon, but there was not much he could do to evict the people from the area.

Same thing in Paseo del Centenario, some of the people went out to ride along the tourist area in their vehicles, and many of them got off the car to take pictures.

The quarantine period is not over, but many citizens do not care and take to the streets without understanding that these actions may worsen the spread of the virus in the port of Mazatlán.
