Mazatlán mayor and six more officials, test positive to Covid-19

The Mazatlán City Council confirmed that Mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres(aka El Quimico) has tested positive for COVID-19, coronavirus.

Through a press release, it was reported that the State Health Secretariat issued a bulletin in which he announced that Benitez Torres and his wife have tested positive for coronavirus.

It was specified that there are seven Municipal Government officials, including the Mayor, Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres, and his wife Gabriela Peña Chico, President of the Municipal DIF, who have tested positive for Covid-19.

In addition to the Municipal President and his wife, the municipal officials Silvia Karina Torres Ruelas, Secretary of the Presidency; and Sergio Rubio Rodríguez, Director of Social Communication, have also tested positive.

But, that’s not all, Nayla Adilene Velarde Narváez, Director of the Municipal Institute of Youth; Zaira Esther Mercado Hernández, Private Secretary to the Mayor; and David Armando González Torrentera, Secretary for Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries, also tested positive.

Unofficially it emerged that mayor Benítez Torres and his wife Gabriela Peña Chico are hospitalized in a private clinic located on Rafael Buelna Avenue, where they are under medical supervision, both are reported as stable.
