In 2020, 824 people were treated by the Ministry of Health in Durango, victims of scorpion sting. Some only require to remain under supervision for a while and others do require the application of the anti-scorpion serum.
Of the number of people attended by the scorpion stings, a total of 423 are men and 401 are women, as specified in the statistics.
Practically, on average, 59 people a week resort to seeking medical attention after suffering a scorpion sting, according to the latest update for epidemiological week 14.
At the country level, there are 63,862 citizens who have required attention due to the bite of the arachnid, which has the highest number of victims in Mexico, according to information from the National Autonomous University (UNAM).
Of this number, 30,652 are men and 33,210 are women, the most affected being those who perform activities that require moving objects that remain static for a long time or being in spaces with pots.
On average there are 4,561 people a week, who resort to seeking medical attention after suffering a scorpion sting, according to the update corresponding to epidemiological week 14.
Specialists from UNAM report that Mexico has the largest variety of scorpions, registering 289 of the 1,500 species that exist, in addition to being the number one sting in the world.
In the university gazette, it is mentioned that they like rock walls, shady, and slightly humid places. Night hunters, their sightings are in the rainy season, which coincides with the mating season.
In the state of Durango, the capital, Nombre de Dios, Vicente Guerrero, and Pueblo Nuevo are from the municipalities with the highest incidence of scorpion bites.
Regarding the city of Durango, it is mentioned that the greatest presence of these scorpions is in the neighborhoods of Tierra Blanca and Analco, as well as in the Central Zone.
