The governors of Nayarit, Antonio Echeverría, and of Sinaloa, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, agreed to close their borders to contain and prevent the increase in cases of coronavirus in the entities.

By signing an agreement in the border area, both leaders agreed to implement sanitary and surveillance filters in order to prevent people by land or vehicle from other states from entering without justification.

The southern border of Sinaloa will be armored starting today, with strong sanitary filters, after the signing of a coordination and collaboration agreement by the governors Quirino Ordaz Coppel and Antonio Echevarría García, as a measure to prevent further contagion in COVID-19. in both entities.

The meeting between the two governors scheduled for April 20 at 12:00 noon, on the border between the two states.

Sinaloa (with 459 positive cases of COVID-19, according to the state SS) already placed a sanitary filter on the Mazatlán-Durango highway, in the immediate vicinity of the toll booth, as a containment activity against COVID-19 in Sinaloa.

The State Secretariat of Public Security reported that this filter is directed by personnel from the Preventive State Police, along with elements from the National Guard, Municipal Police and Traffic, Civil Protection and the Mazatlán Red Cross.

The agency also confirmed the presence of the state corporation, and the rest of the personnel of federal and municipal forces, in the municipality of Choix and in the northern exit of the state, on the border with the state of Sonora.

The Governor of Nayarit, Antonio Echevarría García, through a “video message” on his social networks, announced the meeting that he will hold with Quirino Ordaz Coppel to discuss the issue, later, he said, he will seek the same measure with Enrique Alfaro, Governor of Jalisco.

“Also (today) the meeting with Governor Quirino, to analyze, and to make decisions about who enters and who does not enter Nayarit and Sinaloa, I repeat, all for the good of the Nayarites”, stated.

In the southern neighboring state, there have been seven deaths from coronavirus and 37 confirmed cases, while in Sinaloa, as of yesterday, there have been 47 deaths from the same disease and 459 positive cases of COVID-19.

“We are going to see each other on the border of Nayarit and Sinaloa where we will talk and reach agreements to see who can go from Sinaloa to Nayarit and from Nayarit to Sinaloa and who cannot pass ... I repeat all of this with the sole purpose of saving lives in Nayarit, and in Sinaloa and all Mexicans ”, he reiterated.

He also sent a message to travelers who visit its beaches and called for a temporary halt in visiting Nayarit, as well as the citizens who live abroad and visit their relatives in the neighboring state of the south, to prevent importing cases of COVID-19.

The announcement of the measure to be taken by the states occurred in the framework of a video in which Echavarría García announced some sanctions in the pandemic, such as those who circulate unnecessarily in the cities, who throw parties or who exercise family violence in the confinement.

The Government of Sinaloa reported that the reception and signing place between the two governors will be held at 12:00 pm at kilometer 130 + 500 of the Tepic-Villa Unión highway, in the highway rest area (in front of the Subway restaurant) , near the Tecuala Phytosanitary booth, Nayarit.

A collaboration agreement was signed between the governors of Nayarit, Antonio Echevarría and Quirino Ordaz, from Sinaloa, with the aim of monitoring the income of people to these entities and preventing the spread of COVID-19. In Nayarit, a sanitary inspection station will be installed in the Acaponeta cruise on Federal highway # 15, while in Sinaloa, the station will be located in the community of La Concha, municipality of Escuinapa. “It is to establish the bases and mechanisms for coordination and collaboration between the two states, to define the strategies regarding the mobility of people from one state to the other of both entities,” said the Governor of Nayarit, referring to this agreement that will be signed in the limits of these two states.

  • The temperature will be taken with an infrared thermometer 
  • Information regarding preventive measures will be provided.

  • The transit of people who carry out essential activities informing the health authority of origin and destination will be allowed to take the corresponding control measures and protocols. 
  • The use of public force could be applied if necessary.
