Discontent with AMLO and fear of contagion grows in Mexico

63% of Mexicans are afraid of catching coronavirus or that a member of their family may be a victim of COVID-19, as revealed by a survey conducted by the Mitofsky company, which shows that this fear is seven weeks on the rise.

25.5% showed their fear of dying from the virus, however, 28% responded they are unwilling to stay home.

This statistical exercise also revealed that nonconformity grows against the way in which the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has handled the situation, since 38.6% consider that the correct measures are not being taken, against a 37% that believe AMLO is handling the situation correctly.

How scared are you about you or a relative catching coronavirus?

42% answered that we should already be in Phase 2 of the contingency plan, while only 32% believe that we are still in Phase 1 as indicated by the authorities.

How afraid are you of dying from coronavirus?

In Phase 2 contagions between people within the country are contemplated. Suspension of classes, implementation of remote work, cancellation of massive events and cancellation of all activities in closed spaces such as cinemas, restaurants, night clubs or bars, and although the state governments have already chosen to take these actions, at the federal level it is indicated that we are still in transition from phase one to phase two.

Do you think the Mexican government is taking the correct decisions?

The survey was carried out between March 20th and 22nd, and more than 54% of those surveyed consider that there are more people infected than the authorities estimate. 51% believed that it is time to prohibit people from leaving their homes for a long period of time, and more than 52% are sure that the pandemic will affect their economy.

The survey was conducted among 1,000 Mexican citizens over the age of 18 with access to internet and mobile devices.
