It is estimated that up to 5 million dollars will be lost for the shipping companies that suspended their arrivals in the coming days

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- As a preventive measure for Coronavirus CoVid-19, 27 tourist cruises canceled their arrivals in Mazatlán during the next few days, David Armando González Torrentera reported.

However, the Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlán said that this measure will affect the income over 85 people who work as tourist guides and who receive income on the days that tourism is received by boat.

“It will be an affectation of over 85 tourist guides that are currently operating on the cruise days, the activity has been seen and is completely diminished for the remainder of this month and next month,” he said.

The municipal official estimated that up to $ 5 million will no longer be received with these suspensions.

He also pointed out that inside the port terminal there are 180 workers in different commercial areas who benefit from the arrival of these ships.

As part of the measures, he said that the API could condone the payment of rents to the businesses established within this terminal and that some tour operators have also chosen to relocate their staff to carry out temporary activities and receive some income. However, some will have to cut up to 20 percent of their workforce, González Torrentera explained.

According to the representative of the Committee of Tourist Cruises of Mazatlán, Giancarlo Parolari, the shipping companies announced that they will be suspending departures for 60 days, but days later they reduced this closure to 30 days.
