Between January and the first two weeks of February, they had a record of between 50 and 60 thousand eggs of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which not only carries the Dengue disease, but also Zika and Chikungunya.

“The first seven weeks of the year the trend was down, but since last week the numbers began to increase, this is normal to some extent”, Victor Arredondo Rojas said.

Last week, we counted around 70 thousand eggs, 10 thousand more than the average during the first two months of the year.

However, he acknowledged, the amount of embryos will rise considerably as the heat season approaches, as high temperatures are conducive for the mosquito to produce up to 140,000 eggs.

Arredondo Rojas added that in the last 15 days there have been 20 suspected cases of Dengue in the port of Mazatlan, so they have focused on carrying out activities that allow counteracting the presence of vector mosquitoes, such as decarding.

Around 55 employees of Vectors and Zoonoses, are assigned to different tasks, insluding the management of the Larvae Control group.
