Mazatlan Carnival 2020 breaks record; had 1.6 million attendees


An economic spill of around 651 million pesos is estimated, from February 20 to 25

Mazatlan, Sinaloa.- The Mazatlan International Carnival, “Somos América”, broke attendance records, as local authorities presumed.

David González Torrentera, Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries of Mazatlan, Sedectur, said that the registration of visitors during the events of the Meat Festival was 1.6 million, representing an increase of 18.75 percent over the 2019 edition.

He also noted that both hotel associations reported occupations of 100 percent and that flights arriving to Mazatlan were saturated and unavailable.

As for the economic spill, the municipal official said that the figure obtained was 651 million pesos in carnival events. However, he said that during the day Tuesday three tourist cruises arrived with 13 thousand 437 visitors, which added 15 million pesos. Therefore, adding both concepts, the global spill was 666 million pesos.

González Torrentera said that the economic increase was 20 percent over last year, which is why he concluded that this year visitors arrived willing to spend more money.

For his part, Mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres described this carnival as the best in history and said they will leave the rod very high.
