Mazatlan SSP blocks merchants from Mercado Pino Suárez

As announced earlier this week, the municipal government implements police operations so that these merchants are relocated to the area, as part of the remodeling project

Mazatlan Sinaloa.- On instructions from the Municipal Government headed by the Mayor, Chemist Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres, this morning, personnel from the Ministry of Public Security and Traffic carried out an operation with a police presence to keep the surroundings of the Pino Suarez market free, in the center of the city, as part of the work to realize the rescue of the Historic Center.

30 elements of the preventive corporation and 10 transit agents were given the task of placing safety barriers, candles and prevention tapes in the stream of Melchor Ocampo, Aquiles Serdán, Leandro Valle and Benito Juárez streets.

The merchants considered the operation an abuse of authority since they were not even noticed to inform their customers of the place to which they will be relocated.

With this action, the Secretary of the City Council, José de Jesús Flores Segura, confirmed the project for remodeling the Pino Suárez market.

Municipal Police agents with riot gear were deployed on the sidewalks of the streets Aquiles Serdán, Benito Juárez, Melchor Ocampo and Leandro Valle, to prevent the merchants from installing.

Orange fences were placed in the four streets.

Raúl Castillo, leader of the street vendors, said that the operation was an excess, but that there were no people injured, the excess force was not necessary.

“The time they gave us for relocation is too short. We are asking the Mayor that we be allowed to work during these Carnival holidays,” he said.

“Today we were here since five in the morning, the public force was already there, the transits were there, the police and the grenadiers did not allow us to (install), in fact, there is a companion who did try to install his business, As soon as he set the table, the Subdirectorate of Commerce arrived to remove it so he could not operate. “

After the meeting with the street vendors, City Secretary José de Jesús Flores Segura said that the relocation decision is already taken by the Mayor.

The Senior Officer, Javier Lira González, said that the relocation of these sellers will be basically in the streets of the first square of the city, which comprises from Zaragoza Avenue to German Avenue.

At noon, Mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres said he will meet with them again, although he did not specify dates.

“We will talk to them later,” he said when asked about the demand from street vendors launched a couple of hours earlier.

Street vendors demand inclusion, in Municipal Palace

The street workers evicted this morning from the Pino Suárez market quadrant, demanded that they be included in the public policies of the municipal government.
