December was not the best month for Aeromexico, because in addition to the blow it received with the start of Emirates operations in Mexico, it also saw serious declines in its indicators, compared to the same month of the previous year.

When presenting its operating results of December 2019, Aeromexico reported that it carried a million 763 thousand passengers, representing a decrease of 6.5 percent, compared to the same month of 2018.

The biggest drop was in the number of international passengers, with 9.5 percent less, while the number of domestic passengers only dropped 4.5 percent. The airline headed by Andrés Conesa also saw a decrease in demand, measured in RPK of 2.1 percent.

In turn, Aeromexico’s capacity, measured in kilometers of available seats, decreased 0.6 percent, year over year. Meanwhile, the load factor was 80.9 percent, a decrease of 1.2 percent, compared to December 2018.

According to its plans, the Mexican flag airline would have in its fleet with 14 737MAX aircraft last December, however, since March 2019 the airlines had to leave this model on land, after two fatal accidents registered.

On this issue, Aeromexico also reported that it reached a confidential compensation agreement with Boeing, to mitigate the costs arising from the suspension of operations of 737MAX.

Although no further details of the agreement were revealed, the airline said it remains in constant communication with the manufacturer and national and international aeronautical authorities, and is confident that this ship will restart operations; but he reiterated his commitment to safety and excellence in the service of his passengers.

Aeromexico was the only airline in the country that used the Boeing 737MAX, which was part of the most important investment in Mexican aviation, with 100 aircraft, of which 90 corresponded to this model, and 10 787-9 Dreamliner.
