Grupo Aeroportuario OMA indicates that the Mazatlan International Airport saw a flow of 1,034,998 people from January to November of this year.
In that same period of time but in 2018, air passenger traffic was 938 thousand people, that is, a difference of 96,972 passengers from one year to another.
In domestic passengers the growth was 12.7 percent and in international passengers it was 4 percent.
Óscar Pérez Barros, Sinaloa State Secretary of Tourism, in one of his last interviews stated that one of the strategies to boost air traffic to Mazatlan was to increase the routes and frequencies, both on national and international flights, especially from States United and Canada.
An example of these actions was the opening of the new Mazatlan-Querétaro route, last October, connecting both states for the first time on an air route.
Also, in November, Swoop airlines began operating the Mazatlan-Edmonton, Canada route, and on December, Sunwing opened flights from Quebec City to the “Pearl of the Pacific”.
Out of the 13 airports of the OMA Airport Group in the country, the one that gained the highest growth in 2019 against 2018 was Zacatecas, with 31.1 percent; then Durango with 24.1 percent; Acapulco with 18.7 per cent; Ciudad Juarez with 18 percent; and Mazatlan with 10.3 percent.
