Campeche — Shantal Tun Baeza, an artisan installed in the Parque Principal for the holiday season, said that recent sales rose by up to 80 percent.

With the arrival of the cruise ships, more Europeans have arrived and sales have improved. European tourists are more interested in local handicrafts than Americans, she said.

However, the young artisan and merchant said that it is nationals who come to visit Campeche who buy the most.

She expressed hope that the increased flow of tourists, which started in September, will continue into 2020.

Jipijapa hats made from palms, fans, cups and keychains are some of the crafts that are selling the most these days, said Tun Baeza, another vendor.
