Mexico and the United States will establish inspection points in their respective territories to stop the illicit flow of arms that reach the border between the two countries, the federal government said Friday.

The above was agreed at a follow-up meeting to advance and consolidate the bilateral strategy to curb money laundering and illicit arms trafficking, he said in a statement.

He added: “The illicit traffic in firearms threatens the security and interests of both Mexico and the United States, so it is essential to attack this phenomenon together, with the sole objective of protecting life, security, and integrity. of citizens in both nations. ”

Similarly, he said that the program, with the highest priority for Mexico, in coordination with the Tax Administration Service, will use intrusive and non-intrusive technology to prevent weapons access to our country at all border points.

Initially, it will be in five strategic points: Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Reynosa and Matamoros, whose security actions are strengthened with the presence of the National and Marine Defense secretariats, as well as the National Guard and the state police.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Secretariats of Foreign Affairs and Citizen Security and Protection, Marcelo Ebrard and Alfonso Durazo Montaño, respectively, as well as the United States ambassador to Mexico, Christopher Landau.

The Assistant Secretary of Security, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, also attended; the head of the Chancellor’s Office, Gonzalo Fabián Medina Hernández, as well as officials of the United States embassy.
