MEXICO CITY.- Both senators and federal deputies oppose the United States wanting to impose the presence of labor inspectors in Mexico, reports Excelsior.

See Senate unacceptable to US labor inspectors by T-MEC
The Senate categorically rejects any possibility of an additional mechanism to that agreed between the signatory countries

Ricardo Monreal, president of the Board of Political Coordination (Jucopo) of the Upper House, said that the Senate categorically rejects any possibility of an additional mechanism to that agreed between the signatory countries and that it would go against goodwill and spirit with the that the Protocol Modifying the Treaty between the United States, Canada, and Mexico (USMCA) was signed on December 12.

The discussion and approval of the Law on the Implementation of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada is part of the legislative process for the ratification of any commercial treaty in that country, he said.

The fact that the Implementation Law includes as part of its articles the designation of five labor aggregates (US) to monitor the implementation of the labor reform in Mexico, is totally unacceptable, he stressed.

On the other hand, the PRD’s bench in the Chamber of Deputies demanded that the Mexican Government strongly oppose the US to designate labor inspectors in Mexico.

Through a statement, the bank’s coordinator, Verónica Juárez Piña, said Mexico must strongly oppose the US government’s claim to appoint five labor inspectors to monitor the implementation of the labor reform in Mexico, within the framework of the discussion of the new trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (USMCA).
