The US authorities warn their citizens about the increase in criminal activity in that area
United States.- The Office of Consular Affairs of the US Department of State issued a security alert yesterday in which it warns its government personnel that it is prohibited to travel to the city of Chihuahua, due to “the increase in criminal activity ” in the zone.
Capital Chihuahua already had a travel restriction for officials, who limited their arrivals on Highway 45 and vetoed the Morelos, Villa, and Zapata colonies, which was reinforced after the massacre of nine members of American Mormon families.
This alert adds Sinaloa, Colima, Michoacán and Guerrero, because there is a lot of criminal activity, as well as Tamaulipas, since the high crime includes kidnappings.
In addition, on its travel information page,
travel.state.gov, has cataloged almost half of the territory with level 3, an area of high risk of violence for which it asks to reconsider the trip.
The entities involved are Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit, Morelos and the State of Mexico.
For the rest of the country, the travel alert is level 2, in which it is considered that the illegal activity has increased, however, it is possible to travel with precautions.
Some of the Recommendations
Through its statement, the Consular Office offered a series of recommendations for US citizens who have decided to move to Mexico to one of the areas, considered by them, of high danger.
Among the measures listed are: call 911 for police assistance or, in an emergency, stay alert of your surroundings and check local media for the latest information.
Prepare to take alternate routes between your home and workplace or places you visit frequently. Sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security messages, ”the agency said.
