The Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Zapopan also known as the Llevada de la Virgen or simply Romería de Zapopan, is a religious celebration, where the original image of the Virgin of the Expectation of Zapopan, is transported from the Basilica Cathedral of Guadalajara to the Basilica of Zapopan. This transfer has been carried out for more than 280 years without interruption.

A pilgrim image of the Virgin of Zapopan goes out to visit the various parishes of the city of Guadalajara, from May 20 of each year, the visits culminate on October 9 with the arrival of the Virgin to the Cathedral of Guadalajara. Later on the 11th of that month, a Eucharist is held in the Esplanade of the Cabañas Cultural Institute, where the patronage of the Virgin towards the entire Archdiocese of Guadalajara is endorsed.

Finally, on the morning of October 12, the Virgin leaves the Cathedral for her Basilica in Zapopan, for several decades the route used was through Av. Mayor and Av. Avila Camacho. However, since 2015, an alternate route has been used, because Line 3 of the Urban Electric Train is being built on the entire traditional Romería route. Therefore, the provisional route of the Pilgrimage is Av. Mayor, Av. Hidalgo, Liceo, Av. Juárez, Av. Vallarta, Av. Unión, Av. Américas, Prolongación Américas, and Andador 20 de Noviembre. When the Virgin arrives at the Basilica of Zapopan, a welcome Eucharist is held, where thousands of pilgrims participate, the celebration is broadcast live on radio, television and the Internet.

However, the Virgin does not go alone, accompanied by her Honor Guard, the Cardinal of Guadalajara, bishops, priests, and seminarians; as well as dances of all kinds and an approximate 2 million pilgrims. This is the biggest party in Guadalajara because Our Mother the Virgin of the Expectation of Zapopan returns triumphantly to its Basilica.
