The coordinator of the parliamentary group of Morena in Oaxaca, Laura Estrada Mauro, said on social networks that the initiative seeks to privilege respect for private life and women’s decisions.
With 24 votes in favor and 10 against, the Congress of Oaxaca approved on Wednesday the decriminalization of abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, which makes it the second-largest entity in Mexico, along with Mexico City, in endorsing such a reform.
The benches that voted for were those of Morena, Labor Party (PT) and independent legislators, while against it were deputies of the Institutional Revolutionary (PRI), National Action (PAN) and Social Encounter parties.
