Baja California Sur is the entity with the best level of wages. The capital of the country, meanwhile, is among the five entities with the worst quality of jobs.

Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Michoacán, Sinaloa, and Coahuila are the five entities with the best jobs. In those western and northern states of the country, there is a higher percentage of well-paid formal jobs.

The above according to the #MejoresEmpleos list of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex). To prepare it, the business body was based on the results of the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) of the second quarter of 2019.

The classification measures the percentage of jobs with sufficient salaries to cover the family welfare line. That is the jobs in which they pay at least twice the value of the basic food and non-food basket: 3,972.96 pesos.

Nationally, from April to June of 2019, the salary of 52.8% of the jobs was enough to acquire two basic baskets. Between January and March, the percentage was slightly higher, at 52.9 percent.

With #MejoresEmpleos you can identify the most lagging entities in terms of working conditions, says Coparmex in the study. In that way, he adds, it will be possible to “promote targeted actions that help improve the well-being of the population and reduce inequality”.

The first places

In Baja California Sur, 66.6% of jobs are paid with salaries that cover the family welfare line. In addition, in that entity between 8,000 and 10,000 jobs have been created annually, according to the head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the entity, Gustavo Hernández.

The second best qualified for salaries is Nayarit, where 66.4% is in that condition. It is followed by Michoacán, with 65.1 percent. In fourth place is Sinaloa, with 63 percent. In the latter entity, more than 20,000 jobs were created last year, according to the Directorate of the State Employment Service. Finally, Coahuila, with 63 percent.

There are other states with good news, as they significantly increased the percentage of their best jobs in the last year. Nuevo León went from 55.7 to 62.9% and Tamaulipas, from 50.3% to 55 percent. While Chihuahua, it went from 57.9 to 62.5 percent.

The last places

Coparmex also produced a record of “The five worst states.” That is, where there is a lower percentage of well-paid jobs. It’s about Veracruz, first. They are followed by Tlaxcala, Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Morelos.

The entity with the lowest percentage is Morelos, there 37.7% of jobs are well paid. In the State of Mexico, the figure reaches 41 percent. The third worst evaluated by the salary level is Mexico City, since only 43% of salaries reach for two basic baskets. In fourth place is Tlaxcala, with a percentage of 44.5% and Veracruz, with 44.8 percent.

In addition, there are other states that decreased the quality of their jobs. In Campeche, jobs with decent wages exceeded 61%, now reaching 54.9 percent. Chiapas, meanwhile, went from 52 to 47.5%, and Oaxaca, from 54 to 50 percent.
