Environmentalists from the port of Topolobampo will send a letter to the president of the Republic in order to integrate an interdisciplinary commission of environmental experts, which investigates the environmental impacts that construction would have

Culiacán, Sinaloa. Various environmental groups attended the State Congress to demand that the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, intervene in the construction of the ammonia plant in the port of Topolobampo.

The complainants integrate the collective ‘Here No’ and demand that an interdisciplinary commission of environmental experts be formed to thoroughly investigate the impacts of construction, said Joel Gerardo Retamoza, during a meeting held by environmentalists in the State Congress with the deputy of Morena, Apolinar García Carrera.

“This is a letter addressed to the president of the Republic, where he is being asked to integrate an interdisciplinary commission of environmental experts to address the problem we have with the ammonia plant that is installed in a protection wetland international, number two, give notice to the Ramsar secretariat in Switzerland that this plant is being installed in the ninth wetland of importance in Mexico, and that it will cause environmental impacts, ”he said.

Environmentalists explained that signatures will be collected and the document will be sent to López Obrador.

During his visit to Sinaloa, on June 9, the federal executive said he would intervene in the issue, and that in the event that conflicts continue, he would submit the construction to citizen consultation.
