Airbnb: Mexico in the Top 10 of the most trending global destinations

1023

This summer was one of the hottest of which there has been registration, and with this return to classes meaning the end of a long vacation, travelers are aiming for fall getaways, and are eager for the cooler temperatures of this station. Among the drivers of predominant trips, there are important events, places where spectacular views full of characteristic fall foliage predominate and non-traditional places far from the crowd. Airbnb is committed to continuing developing tourism in these types of destinations to boost the local economy.

Next, we list the top 10 of the trendiest global destinations chosen by Airbnb travelers who head this fall 2019, according to the increase in the percentage of reservations compared to last year, among which are two destinations in Mexico:

Regina, Canada (328%)

Beatenberg, Switzerland (312%)

Beppu, Japan (288%)

Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico (279%)

Culebra, Puerto Rico (250%)

Tepoztlán, Mexico (250%)

Halle, Germany (248%)

Anderson, South Carolina (247%)

Pinehurst, North Carolina (243%)

Obertraun, Austria (232%)

The middle season attracts cities with historical wealth

Usually, the most popular destinations for vacations are busiest during summer or winter, and usually include beaches. But it is increasingly noticeable that travelers are turning to see landscapes with cultural and historical richness. Miguel Hidalgo in Mexico City and Tepoztlan, just south, offer more comfortable conditions to enjoy these cities in the best way.

Puerto Rico is still positioned as a favorite for the second half of the year. On this occasion, reservations in Culebra increased up to 250%, attracting travelers to a place historically known for its ideal spring and summer weather. Similarly, Beatenberg, Switzerland with a 312% increase and Obertraun, Austria with 323% in reservations this fall, provides the perfect place for nature lovers and families.

Big events attract global travelers

More and more travelers – both participants and spectators – use Airbnb when they travel to large events to feel at home, and see the places they visit through the eyes of the locals. Beppu and Ōita in Ōita Prefecture of Japan are host cities in trend for the next rugby world championships. Both players and fans can also enjoy the famous hot springs in the area between games.

Travelers are also going to lesser-known places to experience annual events such as Oktoberfest. Halle, Germany had a 248% increase in reserves compared to last year, offering a premium alternative to the popular Munich.

The top destination of this fall trend is Regina, Canada in Saskatchewan, with a 328% increase in its reserves, for the fifth annual NHL outdoor game in the regular season.

Fall foliage trends in North America

Some may think of the ‘pumpkin spice latte’, as a synonym for autumn, but the changing colors of the leaves in other parts of the world are equally iconic: this is the reason why this year the Carolinas are trending.

Very close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Anderson (1-hour driving, to be exact), South Carolina is located in an extremely convenient location, between the intersection of Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte (North Carolina). Pinehurst in North Carolina is home to the historic golf course, which will offer golfers the opportunity to play the National Open Golf Championship in 2024 in the United States.

And where are Mexican Airbnb travelers heading this fall? As you can see in the list below, for this season they prefer to travel and discover the wonders of their own country in an authentic and local way, as only Airbnb can offer:
