The Federal Tourism Secretary declared on Wednesday August 21, that the administrative adjustments made by the Lopez Obrador administration in terms of tourism, will have a positive impact in the future.
After the disappearance of the Tourism Promotion Council (CPTM) and the cancellation of the works at the New Mexico International Airport (NAIM), Miguel Torruco, Federal Tourism Secretary, acknowledged that it has not been easy for the participants of the Tourism sector to understand that it was not a change of government that began in December 2018, but a regime change in which austerity rules.
In an interview for a Mexican newspaper, the official stated: “By the time the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is over, “there will be a first-world train (Tren Maya), with satisfied tourists that will be traveling throughout southeast Mexico, there will be consolidated highways, and the local population no longer impoverished.”
Torruco declared that the true tourism power is not measured in the number of visitors that a country receives, but in the economic spill left. And he added that Mexico is currently positioned in the 16th place worldwide, and it will pass to number ten by the year 2024.
In its medium-term horizon, it relies on the issue of air connectivity, necessary to accelerate and increase international tourist flows and internal visitors, and finally Miguel Torruco added: “There will be a large airport in Saint Lucia connected to the one in Mexico City, and the Toluca air terminal will also be remodeled and reactivated to be fully operational”.
