RIO DE JANEIRO._ Researchers at the University of Campinas, in Brazil, developed a new technology aimed at preventing the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a carrier of dangerous viruses such as Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, and Yellow Fever, reports the Channel or Globe.

The new method is based on the use of corn starch granules with the essential oil of thyme, an agent that kills the larvae of the species without being toxic to other living things.

In addition to lasting up to five cycles of rain, the granules are cheap and can be produced on a large scale, the researchers say.
