It is the first time they ask not to bathe in one of the most iconic beaches of Baja California Sur and Mexico
La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). The La Paz Waterkeeper association announced that 2 areas of Balandra Beach, in the capital of Baja California Sur, appeared with high levels of enterococci, after sampling to monitor water quality.
“With the aim of communicating the state of seawater quality for recreational use of one of the most visited beaches in La Paz, Balandra beach, we conducted a special citizen monitoring. Of the 6 points sampled, for the first time 2 of them were raised, ”the organization reported.
In a graph, the citizen observers revealed all the beaches that were analyzed, and the only ones contaminated were the main one of Balandra and the one located in the immediate vicinity of the famous rock known as El Hongo.
«Coepris at BCS took their samples and will soon release the official results. For now, we suggest you not take pets to the beach, ”they mentioned.
The other areas analyzed were another 3 beaches located in front of it, which yielded optimal results for recreational use; This sampling also benefited El Tecolote, where the sea is clean.
This would be the first time Balandra shows such pollution indices. The high influx of tourists, due to the great promotion that the beach has received by different means, could be one of the causes that has caused the dishonorable position.
