Culiacán, Sin.- “Natural gas has arrived in Sinaloa, the thermoelectric plants that the CFE has in Topolobampo and Mazatlan are already using it, and as the land conflict in Sonora is resolved, more of this fuel will arrive. This means greater business competitiveness in Sinaloa”, said State Secretary of Economy Javier Lizárraga Mercado.

He added that the disposition of this type of fuel has already allowed progress in the attraction of industrial parks that will be dedicated to the aeronautical, medical and automotive industries.

“Having these additional industries in our state, will also allow better paid jobs for the people of Sinaloa”, the official said.

He explained that Sinaloa is working hand in hand with the Spanish company Iberdrola to generate electricity at a much lower cost and that it would be sold to the Federal Electricity Commission.

About 1,600 megawatts are already produced, he said, and it is estimated that production will increase by 50 percent, which will make Sinaloa’s competitiveness grow, and more attractive to investors, especially in the industrial field.

The state official explained that the construction of gas pipelines has already been completed and natural gas must be arriving in two ways.

“Gas will come from central Texas to El Fuerte, and another line comes from Arizona” he added.

“A land conflict in Sonora was delaying the project, but a judge has already ruled against communities that prevented the arrival of gas, and the problem has been resolved”.

Lizárraga Mercado said that there are 640 kilometers of gas pipeline in Sinaloa, which represent an investment of around 3.4 billion US dollars.

He added that as the gas arrived, there are now companies such as Naturgy and Gas Natural Fenosa, which already work in the municipalities of Ahome, Culiacán and Mazatlán to branch pipelines and distribute natural gas to different users. In addition, larger companies are also investing in shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and housing projects across the state.

Finally, State Secretary of Economy said that in the sector of La Primavera the main pipelines are already installed, and natural gas is available.
