Passenger traffic on the rise in Mazatlan Airport this summer holiday season

“The summer holiday season has been one of the best in recent years for the Mazatlan International Airport”, said Atamsas taxi driver’s leader Román Aguayo Hernandez.

“There’s a new flight of Viva Aerobus from Tijuana, which is arriving full with two frequencies a week, Interjet opened one more frequency from Mexico City and Aeromexico increased the seats with larger aircrafts for this holiday season” he explained.

Aguayo Hernández recalled that in May and June they had to suspend 20% of the taxis going from the airport to the city, but in this month they had to add up 10% more, to supply the demand.

He explained that the average in this holiday season is three daily trips per taxi and with 60 units in operation, resulting in 180 daily round trips from the airport to the city, Which represents between 15 and 20% growth compared to the same period last year.

“It has been a very good year in the arrival of tourists both by air and by land, however, the figures in international flights are still low” he said.

In 2007, Mazatlan has a record 450 thousand international passengers, and last year the number barely reached 300 thousand.

“Flights from Mexico City are constantly delayed, because that city desperately needs a new airport, and that has repercussions in all other airports in the country”, Aguayo Hernandez concluded.
