Violence hits San Miguel de Allende again; Two brave municipal police officers killed

Two municipal police officers died during an armed confrontation in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, another one is seriously injured.

The attack took place on Tuesday, July 23rd, shortly before 2:00 PM. The bodies were lying a few meters from their motorcycles, next to the cobblestone of Independencia Avenue, near the corner with Miguel Malo, in the San Rafael neighborhood.

Apparently, the uniformed police officers attended a report of armed people in the place. After the report, there was a persecution towards the exit to Celaya, the police officers onboard their motorcycles were chasing the armed suspects, and both of them ended up fatally shot.

The area was cordoned off by State and Municipal police agents, as well as Civil Protection staff, while State Prosecutors collect information.

Three Arrested For the Murder of Two Police Officers 


– The Municipal Government reports the following:


The Municipal Government deeply regrets the death of two police officers resulting from a cowardly attack Tuesday afternoon in Colonia Independencia.


Authorities on the local, state and federal level initiated an intense operation to capture those responsible.

The situation was controlled immediately, in order to minimize risk to civilians.

Around 2 pm, three men opened fire on two police officers directly and without apparent cause. 


The local government used the C4 camera system to identify the potential suspects and then locate them; they were captured in the Montes de Loreto neighborhood. 


The three, who were identified as the aggressors, were transported to the Secretary of Public Security, General of the D.E.M. Rolando Hidalgo Eddy along with Municipal Police. 


The Government of San Miguel de Allende reiterates its strong condemnation of this aggression against public servants and maintains the collaboration required by the ministerial authority.

Our condolences to the relatives and friends of the two San Miguel Police Officers who lost their lives in the line of duty today. They were known throughout the community as honest and kind men. Rest in Peace Officers Ramírez Valentin and José Reyes.
