Unauthorized Immigrants Face Public Backlash In Mexico

A new Washington Post/Reforma poll finds Mexicans are deeply frustrated with immigrants after a year of heightened migration from Central America through the country.

More than 6 in 10 Mexicans say migrants are a burden on their country because they take jobs and benefits that should belong to Mexicans. A 55% majority supports deporting migrants who travel through Mexico to reach the United States.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador reaches his seventh month of government with a 70 percent approval of his administration, according to a national survey on housing for 1,200 adults between July 9 and 14 sponsored by Grupo Reforma and The Washington Post.

Although this figure continues to be very high, there is a decrease of 8 points with respect to the March measurement.

The population recognizes López Obrador’s achievements in the fight against corruption and poverty, as well as in education and health issues. However, the main failure of AMLO is in the fight against insecurity and the reduction of violence.
