The CPTQ has sent more than 50 invitations to personnel of the Mexican consulates and embassies to offer them information and training in work of tourist promotion.

Cancun, QR. The Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (CPTQ) has sent more than 50 invitations to the staff of the Mexican consulates and embassies to offer information and training in tourism promotion work.

However, for Darío Flota Ocampo, director of the CPTQ, the staff of the consulates will hardly be able to supply the promotional work previously carried out by the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM), both due to lack of knowledge of functions and lack of contacts. in the tourist field.

So far, the preparation that the staff of the embassies and consulates is receiving consists of a two-hour online course on tourism, for which it was divided into groups of 20 to 80 Mexican ambassadors abroad, of which a first group has already taken the training, reported Flota Ocampo.

In addition, in the case of Quintana Roo, almost 50 of the 80 ambassadors have already designated a person who is receiving tourist information from the state and they are being invited to a face-to-face course in Cancún that would be run by the entrepreneurs of the Asociación de Hotels of Cancun and Puerto Morelos.

However, Darío Flota acknowledged that the transition from the promotional scheme carried out by the defunct CPTM to the promotion made from the embassies and consulates will be very difficult, since those who were appointed for these new functions “do not know the industry, do not have the contacts, nor is it still defined who is who, or who is going to do what, and all that will take some time “.

Anticipated that at least during this year there will be little coordination, “but will begin to assist ambassadors to the tourism fairs to begin to make contacts and soak up the issues of tourism promotion.

“I see the panorama very difficult, we will have to wait for it to begin to walk this theme at the end of this year with the main fairs; is going to be the opportunity that they will have to make contacts “, said the director of the CPTQ.

The president of the Hotel Association of Cancun and Puerto Morelos, Roberto Cintrón Gómez, said they asked the federal government to enable the consulates of Mexico in Houston, New York and other cities on the East Coast of the United States as tourist promotion offices.

He explained that the petition is made about these cities because they are the most tourists from the United States to the Mexican Caribbean and the need to recover that market.

He pointed out that if strategies such as the one they are proposing through the consulates are not implemented, as the months go by, the fall in occupancy will become more evident.
