Mexico City is one of the 10 most visited cities by the LGBTTTI community in Latin America

Although, the CDMX is a friendly city with the LGBT + community, tourism directed to this segment, named in statistical terms, must be competitive and inclusive, that is why after six years of being closed, the Office for Tourism LGB + of Mexico City returns to work since last March 5th. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, from 8 to 10 percent of the total number of tourists visiting Mexico belong to the LGBT + community, and this is the one that generates the most economic per capita; while an average tourist spends $ 680, a person in the community spends up to $ 1,300 per stay.

The CDMX throughout history has been the epicenter of projects and places of recreation in the country. The Zona Rosa that emerged in the fifties today, in addition to housing boutiques, aesthetics and sexshops aimed at the community, is a home for nightlife where tolerance and minorities coexist freely.

The above, added to the 40 years of the LGBTTTI Pride March  and its clear evolution make us sure that it is no coincidence that Mexico City is one of the metropolis with the greatest cultural and entertainment offer aimed at the community. We list 15 places that all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, transvestite or intersexual tourists will surprise you.

Places that all LGBTTTIQ tourists should visit in the CDMX

La Purísima

Cuauhtémoc

Recall that La Purisima has been a driver to decentralize LGBT + nightlife concentrated in the  Zona Rosa, because together with  El Marra  became not only an alternative option but a truly unusual proposal. The late arrival of vogue to the CDMX was possible thanks to key places like this; Franka Polari and her henchmen were given the place before opening to pose and put their beats vogueros.

The spirit of queer hipismo remains latent, as well as its accessibility, good music and suburban atmosphere. With its remodeling and reopening it is revalidated as the fashionable club that everyone wants to be part of. Even if the sacrifice is cruel, having a good time is a guarantee in this place.

Gay bars in Zona Rosa

Zona Rosa is the place where everything started for the LGBTTTI community public scene, it is always good to go to the pioneer spot. Visit to clubs such as Boy Bar , Cabaretito Punto y Aparte , Baby and Vaqueros Bar .

La Perla

Cuauhtémoc

Cabaret bunker containing: a picture of the devil in the men’s room, two Master Clean posters, a giant oyster behind the DJ, a Pérez Prado poster guarded by sharks … And on the walls behind the bar: Marilyn Monroe facing an image of Jesus Christ This is La Perla, a cabaret that dates back to 1946, but had its kitsch explosion in the nineties when groups like La Lupita took the opportunity to record videos there.

The entrance gives you the right to appreciate the transvestite shows, one at 11:30 pm (the only one if you go on Thursday) and the other one at 1:30 am. Before them, you can enjoy rough mixes that go from the seventies sweat courtesy of Barry White or Earth, Wind & Fire, to “You can not”, of the premetalero Cristian Castro.

Tom’s Leather Bar

Condesa

It can be that almost everything here is guaranteed: fun, drinks, leagues, porn. Even sex And when the beers take effect, you have to pass through the dark room to get to the bathroom.

Tom’s has already earned the status of a classic club, without a doubt, with an identity that until today has not been emulated with success, neither in the environment nor in the cachondería. The only survivor of those clubs of the second half of the 90s that proposed a daring and exhibitionist option for men to dance and comadrear at the same time is not precisely their definition of being homosexual, as they were the legendary Workshop, in Florence, or The Station, in London, in the Zona Rosa.

Casa Gomorra

Obrera

If this house were to speak, perhaps it would tell stories that many would think happened in the New York of the sixties, in The Factory of Andy Warhol. Nude men and women dance without pain to the rhythm of the music. Others pick up in the next room. A girl delineates her partner’s tattoos with her tongue, while images of a man caressing his 15 cm penis are projected on the wall. We are in Mexico City, in La Obrera, in a place where everything is possible: it is called Casa Gomorra and, more than sex, it smells of freedom.

A space to support self-managed projects that work in favor of the LGBTTTI community.

El baile de los 41 (Centro Cultural José Martí)

Here everything began. Next to the José Martí Cultural Center is the plaque that includes a relief by Reynaldo Velázquez (it represents two naked men), which commemorates  the most famous history of Mexican homosexual discrimination.

The truth is that at dawn on Sunday, November 18, 1901, there was a police raid on the La Paz gates (now Ezequiel Montes) in the  Tabacalera , when a woman denounced the noise of her neighbors. It was a homosexual feast that scandalized the press, it is said that it was actually carried out by 42 men, but the 41 managed to retain its political identity.

Sodome

Anzúres

There are things that can not be controlled when dozens of naked gay men walk from the steam to the dark labyrinth (located on the second floor). But the coexistence has relaxed enough, almost at hippie levels. The Sodome has become a very good option that includes many activities: they can dance in the lobby, meet men at the bar, sweat in any of the steam and Turkish baths or enter the strong emotions that happen in the dark labyrinth and in the foam room, where the phrase “I dropped the soap” is serious.

ArtSpace Mexico

Condesa

It is presented as a transgressive and contemporary gallery, whose objective is not only based on exposure and sale. ArtSpace seeks to be a platform for exhibiting works that provoke a break in the paradigms of beauty, identity, gender and sexuality, aspects that would not be easy to exhibit in other strawberry galleries in the area. ArtSpace is composed of three rooms and an open space. The house is decorated with artistic pieces: stencil, sculptures, painting and a collage in the bathroom that resembles a punk bar of the seventies. To visit it you must call to schedule your visit.

ArtSpace is perfect for the spectator willing to tear down sexual taboos and those social, mental and religious barriers that prevent him from liberating himself as a human being.

Marrakech Salon

Cuauhtémoc

In a way, this local cabaret-gallery-gay-kitsch-retro-medio-izquierda was the one that turned the street of the Republic of Cuba from the Historical Center into an alternative destination to the Zona Rosa. And the alternative is serious. It is inevitable that Katy Perry will not be heard, but at some point, Radiohead or the Pixies also sound.

On the walls are hanging large photographs that are a valuable record of the transition of homosexual culture in Mexico, like that black and white image that shows some gay boys, arrested in a raid that caught anyone who seemed fucking, years before of the first half of the 20th century.

Before leaving, there is a painted phrase that says goodbye with a  “Thank you for your preference … sexual”

Guilt

Lomas de Chapultepec

Despite the hectic of the entrance and the well-ironed garments of the parishioners, a fluid simplicity is felt in the new Guilt, which returned to the place where it was born: Palmas.

The vatos like to look correct, well groomed and although some look like a bunch of stretched (me among them) are on their right. The entrance as such has no problem, the door closes for the simple reason that there is no room for more people, that is, if you arrive at 1:30 a.m., it is more likely that you will have to wait. I went without problems despite my look punk, hardcore and mosh pit nordo, as some will say. Neither fart, is still an expensive option; 300 pesos of cover or 250 if you are on the list.

Teatro Bar El Vicio

Del Carmen

To feed the addiction by ironic theater plays, accompanied by drinks and sandwiches, El Vicio is painted alone. This place, conceived and opened in 1954 by the Mexican poet Salvador Novo, as of 2005, thanks to the cabaret company Las Reinas Chulas, has returned to the main objective and is now open to anyone interested in belonging to an alternative cultural movement and manifest against commercial art. Regularly presented thematic works LGBTTTI.

Baños Finisterre

San Rafael

Virtually any day of the week there is atmosphere, although the busiest and movement (literally) are on Saturdays and Sundays at 8 in the morning because the Finisterre function as after-hours after the gay clubs close their doors. Men of all ages, sizes, complexions, and professions attend the Finisterre. A good part of them walks naked. Something famous about these bathrooms is that the staff, made up largely of older adults, is extremely kind to the gay community. This is striking because they witnessed how a center that started as a family became a place of a homosexual encounter. Massages are famous, which are highly recommended to lower the adrenaline of the party and that the raw is milder

El 9 de Amberes

Zona Rosa

The Nine-original name of the club when it was located in the street of London-was all of the above, it was Studio 54 in New York and what is now La Purisima in the CDMX. In his glorious life in the eighties, when the earthquake of 85 and the appearance of AIDS, in The Nine presented transvestites with shows that was not limited to imitating artists and played the same Café Tacvba as underground bands. As the first big gay club received the cream of the Mexican society both LGBT + as heterosexual, there are photos of Silvia Pinal and Carlos Monsiváis in this bar.

Rico

Zona Rosa

In Rico you can find all the protagonists of the LGBT + nights in Mexico City: artists, drag queens and office workers, all are invited to spend a spectacular night in this place that every night is bursting.

The first thing you come across the door are neon signs, mirrors, curtains and stroboscopes. On the ground floor, everything is about knowing how to play, because reggaeton is what prevails. When you climb the stairs, you find yourself in the second environment that is a little more alternative, because the same sounds Selena with Los Dinos, Debbie Harry with Blondie, besides being this the space they allocate for special events and tribute nights.

Museo Universitario del Chopo

Santa María la Ribera

This jewel of the German art nouveau remains faithful to its line of support for underground artistic scenes, as well as opening the panorama to the linking of new technologies in art and creative economies. Therefore, it is the headquarters of the Capital Transjóvenes Forum and the International Festival for Sexual Diversity. In addition to having regular exposure with photography aimed at the gay public.
