The State Commission for the Prevention against Sanitary Risks of Sinaloa (Coepriss) has carried out constant verification in public swimming pools and spas in Sinaloa, said Jorge Alan Urbina Vidales.

The head of the Coepriss said that this is to rule out the presence of free-living amoeba and other microorganisms, as well as to prevent diseases of the skin, mucous and digestive during the holidays. 

He explained that currently has a census of more than 200 pools, located in major cities of the state.

” We are reviewing the conditions of hygiene and safety in swimming pools health to prevent diseases of skin, mucous and digestive, as well as the possible presence of amoebas of free life and other microorganisms, in compliance with the Norm 245-SSA1-2010 “, exposed.

He said that public pools are installed and installed in hotels on a census of establishments, distributed mainly in the cities of Los Mochis, Culiacán and Mazatlán, and to a lesser extent in some other locations.

Control

For the above, he said that it is necessary to carry out the control and monitoring of the sanitary conditions of operation and maintenance of the facilities, as well as the systematized monitoring of physicochemical parameters and of microorganisms that determine the water quality.

Urbina Vidales announced that, in accordance with the guidelines of the Coepriss , the owners or managers of swimming pools should ensure that the swimming pool facilities comply with certain sanitary requirements, such as chlorine application binders, chlorine concentration in the 1.5-5 ppm range, cleaning and operation of these bodies of water; have a contingency procedure and leave the pool out of service in case of accidents or unsafe water conditions, as well as having an optimal circulation of water; that is, that the water is not stagnant.

Similarly, have toilets and showers in the area and should prohibit the entry of pets, such as dogs and cats, both inside, and in the outdoor area of ​​the pool. 

He insisted that the activity is to prevent and minimize risks to public health, mainly gastrointestinal and skin diseases, among others, caused by the contact or intake of pathogenic microorganisms and chemicals in swimming pool water.
