The governor of Sinaloa, Quirino Ordaz Coopel says that the good tourist season could be extended until winter.

Mazatlan.-  The governor of the state, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, said he was confident that this summer holiday season, Mazatlan will be full of visitors.

Presumed that in tourism, the state of Sinaloa has been breaking records, specifically Mazatlan, a destination that increased its air connectivity with Canada by 35 percent.

The results of this will be felt in the winter holiday season when residents of that area take refuge in Mazatlan from low temperatures.

“The fact that more cruise ships come, that they come bigger, is part of the confidence in Sinaloa, in the government, that they are enjoying the renewal more and more,” the governor said during an interview.

Remodeling of the historic center, the boardwalk, the Central Park, the Aquarium, the stadiums.

The tasty cuisine of the sea and the warmth of its people have also added values of Mazatlan, he said.

Few resources

After inaugurating the Second Forum of Mexican Constitutional Federalism, organized by Network Associated Newspapers (PAR), the governor of Sinaloa referred the cut of resources that he had from the federal government.

“In two years we received almost 13 billion pesos between state and federal resources; so far this year is very low, we did not reach a thousand, “he said.

During the interview, Ordaz Coppel said that Sinaloa occupies more resources because they have limited more support for works and road, “in regard to last year and the ancestor.” A constant concern of the state government are the effects that the cuts in education could have.

“We have hit the historical deficit we have 700 million pesos a year and what we want is no longer have that deficit to put that money into work,” he lamented.

Safety

Ordaz Coppel also pondered the implementation of the National Guard, which will start operations next Sunday.

In Sinaloa, he said he already finds in Ahome, in Mazatlan, in Navolato, Salvador Alvarado, and is asking for a base for southern Sinaloa.

He admitted that Sinaloa maintains a backlog of police officers. “That’s clear, there are many that are missing, but I think we have to advance more in technology, because that is what makes you focus actions better and is where you will have to advance more and more in video surveillance systems, drones and all this type of information that helps a lot to strengthen security, “he said.

Mazatlan is already full of tourists, says Canaco

Many of the visitors come from the north of the country. Come to enjoy the beach, tour the port, go to the lighthouse, walk along the boardwalk; they ask for more attractions

The Mazatlan hotels are full, assure the president of the Canaco, Jesús Sandoval Gaxiola, and the president of the National Commission of Hotels and Motels of the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce, Guillermo Romero Rodríguez.

Rental Platforms

Managers agree that you must legislate so that the platforms that offer accommodation online pay taxes.

The rent of apartments and houses to national and foreign tourists has increased, “and we are not against”, stressed Romero Rodríguez, but it is important that they are regulated.

This summer season does not affect hotels because most have reservations at 100 percent.

But in the low season, it is a problem for the hotel sector that pays its taxes and has employees to provide services to tourists.

Sandoval Gaxiola stressed that 50 percent of visitors this season come from the Northern Corridor of the country, consisting of Durango, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Zacatecas and Chihuahua. But visitors also come from Jalisco, Nayarit and Mexico City.

Advance

The digital hosting platform Airbnb will no longer be able to evade its fiscal obligations in Sinaloa, assured the president of the National Commission of Hotels and Motels of the National Confederation of Commerce.

He added that Airbnb was exposed by the Federal Tourism Secretariat to pay taxes like any other company. The platform has already signed with the State Government and will also contribute 3 percent for the concept of the Lodging Tax.

He added that a great step was taken in Sinaloa with this company and they expect it to be replicated throughout the country. It must also be extended to individuals who rent their homes, for the same visitor’s safety.
