In an unprecedented event, Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Mexico, Corin Robertson, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the State of Sinaloa and Great Britain, which will allow the entity has access to resources up to 402,300 pounds sterling (about 10 million pesos) for the promotion of education, scientific research and culture projects.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was held at the Embassy House of the United Kingdom in Mexico City, with the presence of the Director General of the British Council, Kevin Mackenzie, who served as a witness of honor.

Governor Quirino Ordaz, accompanied by his wife Rosy Fuentes, said that this agreement represents very valuable support to be able to further develop agriculture, but above all the field of science and technology. “It is the first step, we want more steps and those additional steps or stages in which we want to evolve and fast includes, on the one hand, that they go to Sinaloa, that for us is fundamental for you to see that it is a safe state, it is a reliable state, that is growing a lot, that has a strategic geographical location, that natural gas has already arrived, where agriculture, fishing, tourism, but also the talent of young people are making a difference in the state “.

That is why – he affirmed – being here signing this agreement for Sinaloa represents a very large field of possibilities in the academic subject, and requested to include Sinaloa in the scholarships, “to make a program of scholarships for students and also in the promotion of tourism because few English visit Sinaloa, there is little English investment in Sinaloa but we know that from this it is a start, we must go forward little by little, we know that it is not happen overnight, but this is a great start “.

Sinaloa becomes the first state in the country to sign this agreement, with an economic impact of up to 402,300 pounds sterling, through the Newton Fund, for projects of scientific development, innovation, technology transfer and highly transformative impact works that will be developed in the next two years.

Quirino Ordaz asked to put Sinaloa as “a pilot state, which can be a model in the relationship between a state and a large country like yours in international cooperation, working on issues such as health and social assistance.”

In turn, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Corin Robertson, explained that with this particular agreement they are committed to collaborating through innovation and science in programs that seek to create social impact and work together in the UN sustainable development goals.

In this sense, the collaboration will focus on triggering transformative innovation projects, generating coordination between researchers from universities in the United Kingdom and Sinaloa in the areas of health, energy, agriculture, fisheries, livestock, sustainable development, water and the environment.

RELEVANT DATA:

⁃ The Newton Fund is a program designed by the British government whose objective is to support science and innovation in emerging powers in collaboration with the United Kingdom. The fund consists of £ 375 million distributed among the associated countries, of which £ 20 million have been earmarked for Mexico, with funding matched by Mexican key institutions, which equates to a total of £ 40 million of matched financing.

⁃ With this agreement, Sinaloa will be able to access resources up to 402,300 pounds sterling (equivalent to 10 million Mexican pesos), in projects of scientific development, innovation, technology transfer and high impact works from today and up to 2021.

⁃ Sinaloa has a gross domestic product of 18,000 million pounds sterling, of which 11 percent has to do with primary activities such as the field.

⁃ Sinaloa has the largest hydro-agricultural infrastructure in Mexico, 11 dams operating and 2 more under construction, which places us as leaders in the production of grains, vegetables, live cattle and value of fishing and aquaculture.

⁃ This agreement will allow Sinaloa to promote research on issues such as health, environment, energy, agriculture, fishing, among others, to promote further development.
