The seaweed stain extends from the arc of the lesser Antilles to the Yucatan Peninsula, so the recharge of sargasso will continue in the coming days with medium to high intensity, affecting the destinations of the central and southern coast of Quintana Roo.
In the report on the distribution and abundance of sargasso in the North and South Zone of Quintana Roo, where Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are located, the Sargazo Mass Arrival Early Warning System warned that the affected strip covers a 500 km stretch of coastal coastline.
This stretch would cover from Isla Blanca, to the North, to the Zaragoza Canal, in Xcalak, on the southern border with Belize, and affects with greater intensity the central and southern region of the State, while also reporting prevailing winds from the Southeast, conditions that act in synergy and carry sargasso in moderate to high intensity, especially towards the central and southern coast of Quintana Roo, at least for the next 72 hours.

From Punta Cancun to Punta Nizuc, medium to high intensity sargasso recharges will continue for at least 72 hours, especially the areas adjacent to Punta Nizuc (Playa Coral) and Punta Cancun (Playa Gaviota Azul, Chac-Mool and Plaza Fórum).
In the Municipality of Isla Mujeres, sargasso recharges will be more intense from today, reaching a high intensity, with an impact in the continental region, mainly in the zone of Isla Blanca, Costa Mujeres, Playa Mujeres, Punta Sam, Playa del Niño and Puerto Juárez. Arrival of low to medium intensity are expected in the insular zone, especially in its east coast… From the coastal zone south of Punta Nizuc, in Cancun, to the southern zone, from Bahía Petempich to Puerto Morelos, the arrivals will be of medium to high intensity in the next 72 hours.
Municipalities of Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen)
Playa del Carmen, Cozumel (East Coast), Tulum (Archaeological Zone, Hotel Zone, Arco Maya, Boca Paila and Punta Allen), Felipe Carrillo Puerto (Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve), Bacalar (only Coastal Zone) and Othón P. Blanco (Mahahual, Xcalak and Chetumal Bay), the medium to high intensity recales will continue for the next 72 hours.
