Grupo México bets on the Mayan Train


The matrix of Ferromex and Ferrosur seeks to venture into the main railroad works of the sexennium

The mining company Grupo México and also the parent company of the largest ferrovaria in the country, Ferromex, participates in the tender for basic engineering of the Mayan Train, the most ambitious infrastructure project of the administration.

According to the minutes of the first meeting of clarifications of the call for service LPN – LA-021W3N003-E66-2019, the companies made 190 thousand technical, legal and administrative questions about the train.

The basic engineering issues the technical documentation for the subsequent realization of an executive project and contains the photographic, hydrological, meteorological, geographic, environmental and demographic details, among others.

44 companies that seek the contract of about 485 million pesos are participating in this tender, in accordance with the reference amount of the call, among which consultants in the infrastructure sector include: Cal y Mayor, Scala, IDOM and Senermex, which has experiences in works such as the New International Airport of Mexico City, which was canceled at the end of December 2018 and the Interurban Train Mexico-Toluca, still under construction.

Grupo Mexico, of Germán Larrea, in addition to having the largest mining company in the country and the third steel producer, also operates the Ferromex and Ferrosur freight railroads, as well as the only two tourism trains in the country: El Chepe and El Tequila Express.

Grupo México Servicios de Ingeniería made 54 inquiries, some related to the estimated times for the conclusion of the railway project.


The general director of Fonatur, Rogelio Jiménez Pons, presented the Mayan Train to investors, construction companies and operators specialized in rolling stock (trains and wagons), according to a statement from the fund.

” For the implementation of the Mayan Train, Fonatur has technical, legal and financial advisors. It has also signed agreements with multilateral organizations such as the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and UNO Habitat, ” the firm said.
