In six months it went from 80 to 70% approval. Security and economy, two of the items that most divide opinions, according to the De las Heras Demotecnia survey.
In the first 100 days of the government, the approval of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was at 80%, but at six months of administration it is around 70%. On the other hand, the disapproval in the same period went from 14 to 21%, according to the results of the last survey prepared by De las Heras Demotecnia.
The items where a greater discouragement of the population persists and that could explain this decrease in the approval of the president are economic behavior and insecurity. In the first case, 32% of respondents said they had the perception that the situation has worsened -in line, recently the International Monetary Fund (IMF) cut Mexico’s GDP growth forecast from 2 to 1.6 percent for this year-, while on the subject of security, 35% said that the levels of violence have worsened.
To the question “If I could talk to the president to give him his opinion on how he has governed so far, what would he say?” 42% replied that he would comment “very well, keep it that way”; 33% would say “his management has been more or less well, I have not seen much”, and 14% would comment that his government “has been very bad and that by this way we will not get anywhere.”
Despite the low popularity of the president, almost 60% of respondents rated their management between 8 and 10 points. The best-evaluated items were freedom of expression and fight against corruption, with 64 and 56% respectively of support, considering that there are improvements.
