This Saturday is the International Museum Day. Whether private or public, Mexico has a wide variety of museums to enjoy in all the states of the Republic. With a total of 1,253, most are located in Mexico City, Jalisco and Mexico, related to history, art and archeology.

ACTIVITIES IN MEXICO CITY TO CELEBRATE THE SPECIAL NIGHT OF MUSEUMS ON SATURDAY, MAY 18

International Museum Day is celebrated this Saturday, and these are our recommendations.

This May 18 will celebrate the International Day of Museums, under the theme “For our right to memory.” Since 1977 the International Museum Day has been celebrated and around 100 museums, culture houses, botanical gardens, zoos and libraries in Mexico City will join, for the third time, the festivities.

The organizers of the International Museum Day in Mexico City expect around 200,000 people to participate in the activities, since several cultural venues decided to extend their schedules , offer activities or night tours. There will be guided tours, talks, concerts and various activities and here we bring you the most representative ones to carry out in the CDMX.

Museum of Light

The Museum of Light joins this celebration with a program of activities during extended hours, with a special Museum Night. On Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm there will be special guided tours, guided tours through the museum, lasting one hour, highlighting the artistic, historical and scientific content of the museological discourse of our exhibition permanent.

In addition to workshops and demonstration experiments in which the protagonist is light as well as a talk where the occurred events will be related, 50 years after the fall in Allende, Chihuahua, a meteorite, an object that has contributed lot of information about the origins of our Solar System and the formation of planets, such as Earth.

National Museum of Cultures

In this museum there will be a Folk Dance Show by the Dance workshop

Tattoo Museum

Museum of Women

This museum invites you to a guided tour and conference at the Women’s Museum, as you know its interiors and its history, in one of its two guided visits, in order to reflect on the situation of women in the round table It will take place at 12pm.  The Women’s Museum shows a permanent exhibition with themes such as equity, universal principle of harmony, dual cosmovision of ancient Mexico, freedom and education.

The Museum of Popular Art will present Mexico Textil Sur / Sureste , where we can see the history and creativity of textile art of the different cultures of our country , the conservation of techniques through time, the influence of language and history in the trace of styles and fabrics.

Museum of the Ferrocarrileros

National Museum of the Revolution

National Cineteca

With pieces from the Gaumont Museum , the exhibition will present moviegoers 200 original objects from the private collection of the study , as well as excerpts from films, posters, props, 18 original costumes, cameras, old equipment and curiosities from April in La Gallery of the National Cineteca.
