A man wanted in connection with a south Sacramento homicide was arrested a month after running to Mexico, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Joshua Thomas Vaden, 30, was taken custody Sunday in Tijuana, Mexico by the Tijuana Police Department, the sheriff’s office said. He was deported back to the U.S. on Monday, where he is currently being held without bail.
Vaden is suspected of killing 49-year-old Damien Michael, the Sheriff’s Office said. A family member discovered Michael’s body on April 14 in a home in the 7000 block of Peevey Court. The sheriff’s office said at the time that he was a “victim of a violent assault” but provided few details on what took place.

About two weeks later, Vaden was identified as a suspect in Michael’s death, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators developed credible information that Vaden was fleeing to Mexico and began working with the FBI to bring him in.
“The Sacramento (County) Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the FBI and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in bringing Vaden to justice,” the sheriff’s office said in news release.
Deputies are still trying to identify a person of interest in the homicide investigation, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities provided surveillance photos of that person.
