Public Works launches a call to citizens not to use them as garbage dumps, in order to avoid further damage

Mazatlan, Sinaloa .- In order to avoid impacts related to weather events, the Public Works management implemented the cleaning of channels, which began this month and up to now records an advance of 85%.

The director of the dependency, Juan de Dios Garay Velázquez, announced that he expects to conclude the actions at the end of this month, however, it is possible that the areas look garbage despite the efforts, since cooperation is needed of citizenship to keep the area clean and also not to use waste dump, as these reduce the hydraulic capacity of the channels.

Our task from this month is primarily focused on cleaning channels, is to prepare for the rainy season. I think that most citizens understand that channels are vital to reduce the problem of flooding, maybe some do not, and I call them to support us to keep the channels clean, because the magnitude of the damage depends on them what’s in the flood. Juan de Dios Garay Velázquez, director of Public Works of Mazatlán.

He reported that currently the machinery with the account is quite poor and rudimentary, even stressed that the effort made by the 25 people that make up the cleaning brigades, is titanic, because they cover 48 kilometers of channels, where the priority is to attend the stream system Jabalines, Estero del Infiernillo, navigation channel and ocean, since in that area the confluence of hydrometeorological femémonos increases and puts the inhabitants of the port at risk.

He added that there are also areas that have been located, where there are small sub-basins that flow to a certain point and generate flooding, as in the case of the López Mateos colony, El Toreo, the area surrounding La Gran Plaza, among others, which each year suffer floods due to inadequate rainfall.

He stressed that the only areas where cleaning days will not be carried out are those where there is the presence of the mangrove, since it was Semarnat’s instruction not to touch a single one, as these can make them creditors of economic sanctions and even jail.

He urged the public to respect and keep clean these rainwater systems, in order to avoid losses to regret.
