The director of special projects of the Ministry of Tourism, Alfonso Gil Díaz, said that although there are still 68 arrivals to recover the more than 210 cruises that were made in Mazatlan , we are heading towards recovery.

On Tuesday, the Royal Princess and Carnival Splendor cruisers arrived in Mazatlan.

He recalled that from zero cruises, this 2019 will close with 142, and by 2021 it is expected to reach the 500 thousand passengers that Mazatlan had in its best times.

“The Cruise Industry for the following years, I believe that we will reach minimum as we were before, until the best year, where we got to have 500 thousand passengers, because now they are arriving with a greater capacity,” he said.

Gil Diaz said that this year will close with 142 cruises with more than 300 thousand passengers, representing a recovery of 60%, and at the end of this state government will reach what was previously had.

On Tuesday, the Royal Princess and Carnival Splendor cruisers arrived in Mazatlan.

He said that in 2017 80 tourist vessels arrived in Mazatlan with 283 thousand 592 passengers and crew, and in 2018 there were 90 with 352 thousand 333 occupants.

He stressed that the arrival of tourist boats significantly reactivates the demand for services, and that cruise passengers currently leave a spill of $ 70 each in Mazatlan.

He also announced that Cruise Maritime Voyager will start the Sea of ​​Cortez circuit in December of this year, touching 11 ports, including Mazatlán and Topolobampo.

The director of special projects said there would be four arrivals at each port of the cruise, with 500 passengers, thus expanding the offer for shipping tourism in the region.

He said that the cruise that will start operations as of December 7, and that is focused on the United States market, is already in pre-sale.

The state official did not rule out the inclusion in the future of the Marías Islands in the future.
